CTO (with product focus) - Durban, South Africa - Remote with Travel - R200,000 CTC
*Role open to candidates across SA but must be willing to travel to Durban (or client site across SA) twice a month or more, depending on schedule*
Ada Meher are partnered with a leading metering solutions provider with a global footprint and a core focus on a sustainable future, who is seeking a product-focused CTO.
The company works with clients across South Africa, South America, the Middle East, and Africa. They have technology affiliations with Siemens, SAP, Oracle, and more. Their smart meters assist customers with utility management, revenue enhancement, load management, and demand management, with a focus on big data analytics and smart grid solutions.
As a business, they currently manufacture all meters in-house, including the hardware, firmware, and software. Their smart and pre-paid meters currently focus on electricity and water. They have plans to broaden their product offering, to diversify, and continue to attain market share. This role will play a key part in driving this. This will involve improving on current products, using more complex and high-spec features, while also carrying out R&D into other energy management devices to manufacture.

Role responsibilities:
- Drive product innovation and take new products to market.
- Establish an innovation/R&D department within the business.
- Understand the market landscape and establish where products can be bought in to streamline the production process.
- Create business cases with a thorough understanding of investment and returns to present to the board.
- Strategy and planning to disrupt current market trends.
- The role reports to the CEO and there are three technical direct reports and a team of twenty indirect reports.
To be considered:
- A technical background in the telecoms, software, or electronics industry.
- Proven experience taking new products to market, expanding existing product sets and general product management.
- Astute business knowledge, with a commercial and technical mindset.
- Cross-functional team management experience.
- Experience working in a start-up or scale-up environment would be very beneficial.
